BUILDING INSPECTION AND INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY SERVICES
Criterium Engineers, North America's leading building inspection engineering company, now offers Infrared Thermography services. For 50 years, we have provided hundreds of thousands of building inspections, most often based on visual evidence using the experience of our licensed Professional Engineers as the standard. Today, we believe that tools like Infrared Thermography, that allow us to "see what is invisible to the naked eye," can provide additional service to our valued clients.
HOW DOES INFRARED (IR) THERMOGRAPHY WORK?
An infrared camera detects thermal variations, which show up as light and dark or different color images in the camera's viewer. These thermal variations are typically caused by either the difference in temperature between the indoors and outdoors, or wet surfaces adjacent to dry areas. Detection of problem areas is easy and dramatic when viewed by a trained technician or engineer. Much like a radiologist is trained to evaluate X-rays, Criterium Engineers' infrared technicians have received specialized training in evaluating infrared images.
Example: No insulation in ceiling in a warm climate
WHAT CAN INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY DO FOR YOU?
IR Thermography can reduce overall maintenance costs, save energy, pinpoint problem areas, and be used effectively to troubleshoot and solve problems that otherwise prove elusive. Examples of applications include:
- Isolate areas of water intrusion
- Identify faulty wiring, breakers, and fuses
- Discover plumbing leaks
- Locate radiant heating wires or pipes
- Identify areas conducive to mold growth
- Locate missing or damaged insulation
- Evaluate concrete integrity
- Identify areas of air leakage
- Trace roof leaks to their source
Example: Faulty Electrical Panel
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS SERVICE?
Infrared Thermography may be used on behalf of building owners, buyers, and managers. It may also be used in support of design services or litigation. Contractors responsible for repairs or remediation may find it useful in identifying the source of problems and coming up with effective repairs.
WHAT DOES THE SERVICE COST?
Criterium Engineers provides a trained and certified technician and equipment on site for a flat rate of $900 per day with a half day minimum ($500). You will receive copies of the photographs along with an annotated report of our findings. Repair plans, specifications, and construction monitoring services may also be offered at additional cost. Please contact Criterium Engineers for Infrared Thermography and complete building inspection services.
